The training will provide a lender certification training on the Federal requirements for the administration of the Section 184 Native American Loan Program. The one day training will be provided by ONAP National Office of Loan Guarantee experts and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. More details are in this Fargo flyer.

Learn the ins and outs of environmental review! This 3-day training will offer IHBG Grantees the skills to successfully carry out an environmental review. Training will include detailed instructions on meeting the legislative and regulatory requirements of environmental review, assistance in devising standard procedures for conducting and documenting an environmental review, specific instruction for carrying out environmental review responsibilities, key steps in the environmental review process. As we answer questions common to the environmental review process, tribes will be encouraged to share advice and best practices, to help you avoid common pitfalls. Registration.

Establishing Native American Community Youth Organizations in Indian Country workshop
Seattle, WA

The training will provide introductory information to TDHEs, tribal leaders, and community representatives who wish to:

  • Explore the feasibility of starting, promoting, and supporting youth development programs (Boys & Girls Club, Police Athletic League, etc.) for Indian youth on or near tribal land.
  • Gain an understanding of the organizational relationships between TDHEs, Tribal organizations, and national youth development organizations.
  • Review HUD and other funding sources to support establishing local youth development programs to serve Indian youth.
  • Learn from the experience of existing youth development programs on or near Indian Lands which are successfully serving the needs of Indian youth to benefit the community.

The program will include a site visit to see a thriving Native American Boys & Girls Club in operation.

Learn how to manage construction in Native communities from the drafting table to the grand opening! This 2-day training will offer IHBG Grantees the skills to understand the process of construction administration. Training topics include basic skills, reading schematics and drawings, understanding the project manual, contracting, construction, and closeout. Topics of special interest include contracting for rehabilitation work and also special procurement and construction issues such as design-build, force account, small purchase, and non-competitive. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on group exercises that are designed to turn theoretical knowledge into daily practice.

Training participants at all experience levels will gain the confidence and knowledge to conduct efficient and effective procurement that complies with HUD and other funding source requirements. This 3-day training addresses both management and construction development procurement. Training topics will range from careful preplanning and the basics of purchasing to unique factors in tribal housing purchasing, the practical how-to's of procurement planning and policy development, as well as specific regional issues. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on group exercises that are designed to turn theoretical knowledge into daily practice. Registration.
